Co-Owner of Atlanta Lesbian Bar Arrested After Patrons Were Heard “Projecting Their Voices”

Jen-Chase Daniels, the co-owner of Atlanta lesbian bar My Sister’s Room, said she was arrested on Saturday night for alleged noise violations that she says did not come from the business. According to testimony in an incident report by arresting Atlanta Police Department officer Jayden Joseph, he was responding to a violation of a city noise ordinance. “I would like to note for the record I did not hear or witness any loud music coming from either establishment,” he said in the report. “However, I did observe MSR with their garage door open while several patrons were inside projecting their voices loudly.”Joseph alleged that Daniels refused to provide him identification, which he said catalyzed her arrest. In a video posted to the My Sister’s Room Instagram on August 16, officers from the Atlanta Police Department can be seen handcuffing Daniels in front of a group of people, as she protests the apparent grounds for the arrest. “Just so we’re clear, we were not over capacity,” Daniels says to the person filming. “We were not 18 and up tonight.”View this post on Instagram“Take my phone and call my wife,” she adds to a bystander. “We did nothing wrong tonight.”In the caption shared with the video, Daniels further explains why she was arrested.“I’m pretty exhausted but I will have more to say about this tomorrow,” the caption reads. “I am OK. […] Thanks City Of Atlanta Police Department this was a big let down tonight.” In a follow-up Facebook post further elaborating on the situation that was posted on August 17, Daniels wrote that the city no longer uses decibel readings, or loudness measured on a scale read by machines, to enforce these noise ordinances.
