Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about QueerLine, from creating an account to listing your business and booking a sponsorship.

About QueerLine
What is QueerLine?

QueerLine is a free, nationwide LGBTQ+ community and resource platform. It connects LGBTQ+ people across the United States with health resources, local services, events, businesses, news, and community forums. The site is free for all visitors and always will be.

Who runs QueerLine?

QueerLine is operated by Digital Platforms LLC, a company based in Oregon. Our mailing address is:

Digital Platforms LLC
233 Rogue River Hwy Unit 1166
Grants Pass, OR 97527

You can reach us anytime through our contact form.

Is QueerLine free to use?

Yes, completely. Browsing the site, using the resource finder, reading news, joining forums, and submitting events and places are all free. Creating an account is free. Listing a business at the Basic level is free.

Revenue comes from optional paid upgrades for businesses (the Featured listing tier) and from Community Sponsor placements. This keeps the platform free for everyone else.

What does "Educate. Connect. Empower." mean?

It is the QueerLine tagline and it represents the three things the platform is built to do:

  • Educate: Provide accurate health information, legal rights guides, and curated news from trusted LGBTQ+ outlets.
  • Connect: Help people find local resources, LGBTQ+-friendly businesses, events, and community members near them.
  • Empower: Give individuals and businesses a platform to be visible, supported, and part of a nationwide community.
What areas of the United States does QueerLine cover?

QueerLine is nationwide from day one. All 50 states and Washington D.C. are supported. The local resource finder uses zip code search so results are always relevant to where you are.

Your Account
How do I create an account?

Click Join Free in the top navigation. You will need a valid email address and a username. After registering, you will receive a verification email. Click the link in that email to activate your account before you can post or submit content.

Why do I need to verify my email?

Email verification confirms that the address you provided is real and that you have access to it. It protects the community from spam accounts and ensures we can reach you with important account updates. You will not be able to submit content or post in the forums until your email is verified.

What are user badges?

Badges appear on your profile and reflect your role or contributions to the community. Current badge types include:

  • Verified User: Account in good standing, email verified.
  • Community Contributor: Awarded after 50 or more approved posts or submissions.
  • Health Advocate: Assigned by the admin team to recognized health and wellness advocates.
  • Event Organizer: Earned after 3 or more approved events.
  • Registered Business: Account linked to an approved business listing.
  • Featured Business: Linked to a Featured-tier business listing.
How do I update my profile or change my avatar?

Sign in and click My Account in the navigation. From there you can update your display name, bio, location, and profile picture. You can upload a photo or choose from 12 pride flag avatar designs, including Rainbow, Trans, Bisexual, Non-binary, Pansexual, and more.

Business Directory
How do I list my business?

You need a QueerLine account first. Once signed in, go to the Submit a Business page and fill in your business details. All submissions are reviewed by our team before going live. Basic listings are free.

How long does the review process take?

We aim to review all business submissions within 2 to 3 business days. You will receive an email notification when your listing is approved or if there is an issue with your submission.

What is the difference between a Basic and a Featured listing?

There are two listing tiers in the QueerLine Business Directory:

  • Basic (free): Your business appears in the directory with your name, category, location, description, contact details, and 1 photo. Visitors can leave reviews.
  • Featured (paid): Everything in Basic, plus a gold "Featured" badge, priority placement above Basic listings in search results, a verified badge, the ability to respond to reviews, and up to 10 photos.

Upgrading does not affect your reviews or existing listing content. Both tiers appear in the same directory. Featured listings are visually distinguished and sorted above Basic ones.

How do I upgrade my listing?

Sign in and navigate to your listing page in the directory. In the right sidebar, you will see an Upgrade Your Listing card with options and pricing. You can also find it quickly by clicking My Listing in the navigation bar once you have an approved listing.

Upgrades are handled securely through Stripe. You can cancel anytime.

Is there a limit to how many businesses I can list?

There is no hard limit. If you own or manage multiple LGBTQ+-friendly businesses, you can submit each one separately under the same account. Each listing is reviewed individually.

Community Sponsors and Advertising
What is a Community Sponsor?

Community Sponsors are businesses that pay to be featured prominently across QueerLine pages. Their placements appear as native cards or content that match the site design. There are no banner ads, no pop-ups, and no uploaded image ads. Sponsorships help keep QueerLine free for everyone.

What is the difference between a Spotlight and a Sponsored Post?

Spotlight: Your business appears as a branded card in the "Community Sponsors" row on the pages you select. The card shows your logo, business name, category, and city. Clicking it takes visitors directly to your directory listing. Spotlights appear on content pages like the directory, events, health, resources, news, rights, places, and forums.

Sponsored Post: Your business appears as a native content card inside the News and Forum page feeds, between articles or threads. It shows your business name and a short description with a subtle "Sponsored" label. It blends naturally into the content flow without disrupting the reading experience.

Both formats are built into the site design. No ad blocker can hide them because they are not external ad scripts.

Do I need a business listing to advertise?

It depends on which path you take:

  • Self-service booking (via Stripe): Yes, you need an active approved listing in the QueerLine Business Directory. Listing at the Basic level is free. All self-service ad clicks link to your directory listing, keeping the experience on-site for visitors.
  • External advertiser (manual placement): No listing required. Attorneys, health clinics, nonprofits, and other organizations can advertise without a directory listing. These placements are reviewed and set up manually by a site administrator. Your ad links to your own website, opening in a new tab. Billing is handled separately by the administrator, not through the website.

Visit our Advertise page for a full explanation of both options.

How do I request an external advertiser placement?

If you do not have a QueerLine business listing and want to advertise, use our Contact page to send a request. Include your organization name, your website URL, and which pages or sections you are interested in. A site administrator will review your request, confirm availability and pricing, and follow up within 2 business days. Once approved and paid, your placement goes live on the agreed start date.

Note: all ads on QueerLine use our native card format regardless of how they are booked. We do not accept custom banner images or client-supplied creative files.

Will my ad be blocked by ad blockers?

No. QueerLine sponsorships are not served through external ad networks or ad scripts. They are PHP-rendered elements built directly into the page, identical in structure to regular site content. Ad blockers target external scripts and tracking pixels, neither of which QueerLine sponsorships use.

How do I book a sponsorship?

If you have an approved business listing: Sign in to your account and visit the Advertise page. Select the package that fits your goals, choose your duration (weekly or monthly), and complete checkout securely through Stripe. Your placement goes live on your chosen start date with no waiting period.

If you do not have a business listing: Use our Contact page to send a placement request. Include your organization name, website, and which pages interest you. An administrator will follow up with pricing and availability. Billing is handled separately once your placement is confirmed.

What is the difference between advertising and having a Featured listing?

They are completely separate and can be used together:

  • A Featured listing upgrades your position and appearance within the Business Directory only. It gives you a gold badge, top-of-results placement, and additional photos.
  • A Community Sponsor placement puts your business in front of visitors across the whole site, on pages like Health, Events, News, and Forums, reaching people who may never visit the directory.

A business with a Basic free listing can still buy a Spotlight ad. A Featured business can also run Sponsored Posts. They complement each other.

Community Features
How do I submit an event?

You need a QueerLine account. Once signed in, go to the Submit an Event page. Provide the event name, date, location, and a description. All submissions are reviewed before being published. You can submit up to 5 events per day.

How do I suggest a place to add to the Places section?

The LGBTQ+ Places section covers bars, restaurants, hotels, parks, community centers, and other welcoming spaces. To suggest a place, sign in and use the Submit a Place form. Our team will review and add approved places within a few days.

How do the community forums work?

The forums are organized into topic categories. You need a verified account to post threads or reply. Content is moderated by our team and community moderators. Posts that violate community guidelines are removed. Please keep discussions respectful and on-topic.

How is content on QueerLine moderated?

All submitted content including business listings, events, places, and forum posts goes through a review process before or after publication. Our moderation team reviews reports from the community and acts on content that violates guidelines. If you see something that should not be on the site, use the report feature or contact us directly.
