Oscar winner and famously gender-bending performer Tilda Swinton is set to reprise her role as a cross-dressing character named Ella/Max in an off-Broadway production of Manfred Karge’s Man to Man at New York City’s Lucille Lortel Theatre in February 2027.As Deadline first reported, this will be Swinton’s New York stage debut —with her appearance in Man to Man marking her first time back on stage “in four decades.” The announcement was made by producers Brian and Dayna Lee, the Royal Court Theatre, Berliner Ensemble, and Madison Wells Live.A one-person show, Man to Man tells the story of a woman named Ella who takes on her dead husband Max’s identity, including his job as a crane operator living in 1930s Weimar-era Germany on the brink of World War II. In 2013, she starred in the post-apocalyptic film Snowpiercer about a train divided by class navigating the end of the world.
