IN PHOTOS: Hundreds rally against NYC’s NYU Langone Hospital’s capitulation to Trump on trans healthcare

On Tuesday, hundreds of New Yorkers picketed outside New York City hospital NYU Langone Health to protest a deal it struck with the Trump administration. Under the deal, the hospital will pay the federal government $8.5 million and keep its gender-affirming care services closed to transgender minors, solidifying a policy it enacted in February amid pressure from the administration.NYU Langone is one of at least six hospitals in the United States to make such deals, including Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. Family members of trans youth and LGBTQ+ advocates say the network of health care resources for trans youth has been shrinking rapidly on both the city and federal levels.The Advocate attended Tuesday’s protest and captured 11 photos of trans New Yorkers, LGBTQ+ activists and their allies in action.Organizers marched outside NYU Langone with banners and signs urging the protection of gender-affirming care for teens.One protester used chalk to draw trans Pride flags and trans-affirming art on the sidewalk.Christen Clifford, the mother of two trans kids who were former patients at NYU Langone, watches on.Actor Elliot Page stands in front of a crowd of protesters across the street from NYU Langone.Clifford recounted how gender-affirming care at NYU Langone benefited her children, calling for the restoration of such services for minors.New York State Rep.
