Florida trans woman and her partner attacked while walking to work by women in a car

A Florida transgender woman and her partner were assaulted on a Miami street Sunday night while walking to work. Video footage shows the confrontation.Felyz Rodriguez and Davin Lopez told South Florida NBC affiliate WTVJ that women in a passing car yelled at them for walking in the road. Lopez said he gestured toward the car, its driver turned around, and the confrontation became physical.“It was all unprovoked. We were just walking,” Rodriguez, who is trans, told WTVJ.Lopez said one of the women pepper-sprayed him. Rodriguez said the driver pulled her hair. Investigators said Rodriguez and Lopez had cuts, bruises, and swelling and felt burning from pepper spray. Rodriguez said she was “confused,” “distraught,” and “traumatized.” In an email to The Advocate, Joseph Peguero Rivera, deputy sheriff of the Public Affairs Office at the Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that respondents with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue observed “bruises, lacerations and swelling and burning from pepper spray” on Rodriguez and Lopez after the attack, and said that the perpetrators fled in an unknown vehicle.
